The National Youth Gathering is coming up next summer.  The gathering dates are July 17-21, 2010, and their official website is http://2010.lcmsgathering.com/.  I encourage everyone to browse the website to gain an understanding of what is taking place at the gathering.
 
Bethel is now starting to ramp up its preparations for the gathering.  Registration has now begun.  The website estimates the total cost to be around $1000/person.  This estimate includes $275 for registration, room and board, as well as a plane ticket to New Orleans, LA.  We understand that this is a very large burden and are planning an agressive fundraising campaign between now and next summer.  We will also be looking into carpooling and taking a van or 2 to the event.  Bethel's funding goal is as follows:  1/3 parents & youth, 1/3 fundraising, and 1/3 Bethel support.  Youth must be involved in the fundraising event if they plan on using the fundraising money to help support their costs for the gathering.  I invite all youth to be involved in each event.  The first fundraiser is Sept 30, 2009 from 6-8 PM at Connie's Pizza.  If we raise more than the 1/3 through fundraising the additional money will go to help offset parents and youths portion.
 
I have attached the Youth Participation Worksheet that must be completed and signed by both the youth member and parent.  A $100 check made out to Bethel Lutheran Church will also need to accompany the Youth Participation Worksheet.  This amount is the amount required to register this fall and will go towards the parents contribution for the gathering.  The remainder isn't due until June 1, 2010.  Bethel will be collecting Youth Participation Worksheets and initial deposit from now until October 15, 2009.  Forms may be turned into the youth leaders during Sunday School or to the church office in a sealed envelope marked National Youth Gathering Registration.
 
I will be leading the youth this year along with 3 other members on the team:  Pat Sarkauskas, Maggie Gerdes amd Dan Frega.  We look forward to working with you throughout this year.
